Project Title: The Accademia del Cimento in Florence: tracing the roots of the European scientific enterprise. Florence's Accademia del Cimento is the first European society to put experimentation at the core of scientific activity, giving rise also, to the revered Royal Society and the Académie Royale des Sciences. Legions of records, most of which remain unpublished, have been left behind by members, potentially casting new light onto the process of establishment of scientific societies in Europe, on the emergence of a shared scientific discourse, and its normalisation. The EU-funded project TACITROOTS aims to trace the roots of scientific enterprise, analysing the hundreds of experiments designed and conducted by the academy's members, without losing sight of the specific context in which they were produced and disseminated.

I bandi dello European Research Council hanno come obiettivo quello di finanziare scienziati di eccellenza che propongano progetti di ricerca non convenzionali, innovativi e high risk/high gain. Il solo criterio di valutazione è l'eccellenza scientifica.

L'ERC pone un'enfasi particolare sulla ricerca di frontiera, incoraggia progetti di natura multi- o inter-disciplinare che riducano le distanze tra varie aree disciplinari e promuove progetti pionieristici che affrontino domande aperte di aree di ricerca emergenti.
